The Behaviourists Lead
The centrepiece tool for much of the rehabilitation work I do with dogs, the Behaviourists lead can be held, used and worn in a number of different configurations, and provides a number of benefits:
Leads high on the head reduce strength, and remove the opposition reflex caused when a dog feels pressure at the front of their chest (like when a dog is wearing a Harness, Martingale, or Flat Collar). This opposition reflex is the main reason that many dogs pull, and can be a significant contributing factor to reactive behaviour on the lead in over-excited, nervous or insecure dogs.
The extra length allows your dog to enjoy prey-drive related activities like sniffing, tracking, and exploring, whilst making it easy for you to quickly bring your dog in close beside you when you need to keep them safe and under close control.
This ‘in and out’ free movement helps to reduce frustration and stress in high energy, high drive dogs and is an essential component in how we work with dogs to reduce reactive behaviour and build trust. Specification:
Brass Tri-Glides
The brass tri-glide brings dual functionality, either as a limiter in a slip lead or figure 8 configuration to prevent over tightening, or to be used to creat a ‘00’ configuration, with the trigger glide under the chin. We use Sand cast antique brass that’s soft to hold, without rough edges to guarantee your dogs comfort.
Designed with Figure 8 in Mind
Designed to be used most effectively as a traditional unstitched figure 8. This configuration completely removes the lead from the neck, combining comfort with safe handling. The lead sitting over the bridge of the nose across the eyes also helps to calm your dogs prey-drive or fixated behaviour for close control and significantly reduced strength.
